When I looked at it in detail it appears that Nectar does not really give me, the consumer, very much at all - the returns are really very small. Unsurprisingly I was not delighted, but it made me think about what Nectar actually gives me and what Sainburys plc gain from it (analysing my shopping and giving me vouchers as an incentive to spend more money with them). I eventually found a customer service number and received what, at best, can only be described as an indifferent and uncaring response. Nectar are not particularly easy to contact, you can live chat but only to discuss topics within certain criteria. Oh dear, this is where the scheme falls down. For whatever reason the voucher did not appear on Ebay and, hence, I was unable to redeem it. Recently I thought I would explore using points against purchases on Ebay, and redeemed my voucher. I go to Sainsburys and use it to acquire points which I then redeem at that same store, like most of us. I have carried a Nectar card for around a decade. Please don't get yourself into the same situation as me, if you still have points on your card, spend them before someone else does. Instead I'm left out of pocket and frustrated that nectar are not taking this at all seriously. I wish I'd known this because I would have cleared my points on a transaction I wanted to make and closed down my account. It seems that Nectar have a persistent problem with theft of points, as I have found many stories similar to mine on the Money Saving Expert forums and on This Is Money.

I've asked how to make a formal complaint, I got told to send a letter to their postal address? How ridiculous! I called again on 7th February and when I asked can't you just send me the card by 1st class post, I was told "Go to sainsburys and pick up a new card yourself".

I called again in November and December asking for an update on my case and why no card arrived, each time I spoke to someone different and they kept saying it would be 15 days to get a new card and then the balance could be sorted afterwards. However, my card was used AGAIN on 17th September to spend points I didn't have, sending the balance into negative numbers!! No new card arrived after 15 days. The agent then said that they would get a new card sent out to me and it would arrive in 15 days. I immediately called Nectar's helpline and reported it, the agent said that they would investigate and block the card so it couldn't be used.

On 16th September I noticed a spend of thousands of points in an argos in Grantham, this was not me as I live in Birmingham. I was unfortunate enough to have all my nectar card points taken in September 2021, it's now 5 months later and Nectar still have not resolved the issue.
